Werner Schroeter (1945) has a guest appearance at Siskin’s party.

Born in Georgenthal/Thuringia, he was raised in Heidelberg. At age 14, he began to admire Maria Callas. This formed the basis for his later productions in the world’s big opera houses. Another woman was responsible for his directing career: Magdalena Montezuma stands in the centre of his early films. Between 1969 and 2010, he made 45 films, among them THE DEATH OF MARIA MALIBRAN, IL REGNO DI NAPOLI, THE KING OF ROSES, MALINA and the last one NUIT DE CHIEN (2009). In addition to that, he produced more than forty different stage works in such cities as Bochum, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Bremen, and Hamburg. With regards to the history of film, Fassbinder prophesied that compared to literature, he would attain a position “somewhere between Novalis, Lautréamont and Louis-Ferdinand Céline.” Werner Schreoter received numerous awards and prizes for his extraordinary filmic oeuvre, especially in 2009 a Life Achievment Award at the Venice Film Festival. Today, Werner Schroeter lives in Berlin.
