Peter Märthesheimer (1927 - 2004)

Program manager, producer, screenwriter, novelist. In 1964, he began to work as program manager at the German national broadcasting station Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR). Starting in 1977, he was a producer with the Bavaria Film GmbH. From early on, he was instrumental in enabling Fassbinder to realize his topics both, for cinema and television. Apart from WORLD ON A WIRE their collaborations include THE NIKLASHAUSEN JOURNEY (1970), the five-part workers serial EIGHT HOURS DON’T MAKE A DAY(1972), MARTHA (1973), FEAR OF FEAR (1975), I ONLY WANT YOU TO LOVE ME (1975), DESPAIR- A JOUNREY INTO LIGHT(1977), as well as the 151/2 hour TV-movie BERLIN ALEXANDERPLATZ(1979/80). He is, in conjunction with Fassbinder and his partner Pea Fröhlich, the script writer of RWF’s BRD-trilogy (THE MARRIAGE OF MARIA BRAUN, LOLA and VERONIKA VOSS) and wrote further, together with his co-writer numerous scripts for cinema and TV-movies.
