Klaus Löwitsch (1936 - 2002) is Fred Stiller.

He was a German TV, film, and stage actor,  who began his career in 1956. In 1970, Fassbinder cast him for his tenth movie, PIONEERS IN INGOLSTADT, thereby adding a very experienced actor to his antitheater ensemble. Klaus Löwitsch was trained in classical dance and acting at Vienna’s Academy for Music and Performing Arts and at the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar. The fifth collaboration with RWF in the role of Fred Stiller marked the highpoint of his creative career. After his final RWF-cooperation, in THE MARRIAGE OF MARIA BRAUN, 1979, the high international visibility of Fassbinder’s films led to his appearance in leading roles; for example he starred beside James Coburn and Richard Burton (STEINER – THE IRON CROSSpart I and II), Jon Voight (THE ODESSA FILE) and with Clint Eastwood in the action movie FIREFOX.
