Juliane Lorenz

She is an author, filmmaker, film editor, producer and the President of the Rainer Werner Fassbinder Foundation (RWFF) based in Berlin, as well of The Fassbinder Fondation in New York (FF Inc.). After her initial meeting with Fassbinder in 1976 they developed an intense professional, artistic and personal relationship which entailed fourteen films. After the death of Rainer Werner Fassbinder in June 1982, she continued to be a highly acclaimed European film editor and collaborated with other renowned author-filmmakers, among them Werner Schroeter, Teresia Villaverde, and Oskar Roehler. She has received numerous awards for her work as a film editor that has been lauded as idiosyncratic and independent. Her achievements also include a variety of documentary films she wrote and directed, and several publications. While Ms. Lorenz was also Fassbinder´s companion, she is also the legal heir of the estate of Rainer Werner Fassbinder and his mother Liselotte Eder. She took over the artistic direction of the Fassbinder Foundation in 1992 and initiated the comprehensive Fassbinder retrospectives in Berlin (1992) and at New York’s MoMA (1997), as well as at Paris’ Centre Pompidou (2005). A milestone of Ms. Lorenz’ accomplishments was the restoration of Fassbinder´s BERLIN ALEXANDERPLATZ, released in 2007.  Her resent project Fassbinder’s WELT AM DRAHT: NEW MASTER will be presented at the 60. anniversary of the Berlinale,  the International Film Festival in Berlin 2010. Todayshe lives in Berlin.
