Fred Ilgner

Starting in 1960, he was first an independent, later a tenured production manager at the Westdeutsche Rundfunk (WDR). Before WORLD ON A WIRE, he had already collaborated with Fassbinder on EIGHT HOURS DON’T MAKE A DAY and continued as RWF’s production manager for MARTHA. He was in charge of numerous WDR in-house productions and thus worked with well known German directors including Peter Beauvais, Eberhard Itzenplitz, Peter Zadek, Helma Sanders-Brahms, Marianne Lüdcke, Karin Brandauer, Wolfgang Petersen and Rolf von Sydow. Fassbinder appreciated his abilities, his reliability and his complete loyalty vis-à-vis the artistic crew. In WORLD ON A WIRE he briefly appears as a truck driver in the third world level, which Stiller visits in a transfer shift.
