El Hedi ben Salem (1935-1982) is one of the bodyguards.

Born in Tunisia, he was descended from a Berber family. In order to support his wife and two children, he immigrated to Paris in the late 1960s, where he met Fassbinder; he followed him to Germany, and lived with Fassbinder for three years. Between 1971 and 1974, he played in such films as THE MERCHANT OF FOUR SEASONS, JAIL BAIT and FOX AND HIS FRIENDS. Fassbinder wrote the role of the guest worker Ali for himin ALI: FEAR EATS THE SOUL. With this role alone, in his appearance beside the cleaning lady Emmi, played by Brigitte Mira, he will be unforgotten.
